Suite aux multiples échanges entre nos participants et les jeunes américains étudiants en journalisme du programme SIT Study Abroad, Youssef et Rachida se sont proposés pour faire un exposé sur les différences entre un jeune marocain et américain, en se basant sur les textes qu’ils ont rédigé suite à ces échanges. Dans leurs textes, Rachida et Youssef, font une analyse sur ce qui fait que les jeunes américains sont plus à l’aise à la prise de notes, la rédaction, … là où eux, ils ont plus de difficultés.
Voici leurs textes :
“The collaboration with a student from the SIT program has enabled me to recognise several differences between me and the american student, and those differences are decisif in making efficient and valuable work.
From our first contact, the student had shared with me a document where she used to collect all the information she may need in her research. In that document, she had written the idea of the project, the contents, the resources, the contacts and also the possible alternative plans, and she was revising and returning to this document along the research.
For me, this document was not useful, and I thought I must not lose my time in noting and revising all of these things. It’s enough to have the idea, the main axes and the most important resources, and the rest will be registered in my mind.
Three months later, I became more conscious of the decisive importance of such documentation. During the periode I was in contact with the american student I always felt the difference between the picture and the map of the research in my head and that one in her head. For me, there was a lot of “fog” and I couldn’t measure the advancement of the project, but every time I asked her about that she was able to indicate our exact position on the road.
What I learned from this experience is that my mind became more organised and structured when I put down on paper what is in my head, because it doesn’t steel confused and disconnected, and that allows me to develop it when I observe it with my eyes, as well as my mind became free to do other fonctions.
Secondly, the american student has a complete self-confidence to meet experts, to interview moroccan people and to travel in a strange country for her, and that surprised me because although I am original of this country and I will not face the majority of obstacles she is facing, I can take the same decisions she could take. Maybe the difference between us is determination, motivation and self estimation.
The last thing I want to mention is that my goals are often very big to the extent that I spend my energy in making plans which I don’t arrive to realise because of the wrong methode I apply to make plans : Map then Details. My american partner has a small but precise goal, and she collects all the accessible details before starting thinking about the plan, and at the end of the story she achieves something very close to her model of success. For me, I don’t reach to any end, and I don’t formulate any story, and what remains for me is only the “empty” model of success.”

“Est-ce qu’il y a vraiment une différence entre un jeune marocain et un jeune américain ?
C’est la question qui je me suis posée après avoir rencontré les étudiants américains du programme SIT Study Abroad.
Pour répondre à cette question, voici quelques éléments que j’ai observés pendant cette rencontre.
Chez les jeunes américains :
- J’ai remarqué qu’ils étaient très concentrés lors de l’échange, ils n’hésitaient pas à chaque fois à poser des questions pour retenir le maximum d’informations.
- J’ai constaté qu’ils prenaient toujours des notes sur un cahier et non pas sur leurs smartphones ou leurs ordinateurs.
- J’ai aussi observé lors d’une interview avec une fille de SIT qu’elle était très structurée et organisée au niveau des questions qu’elle m’a posées et qu’elle a bien géré le déroulement de l’interview.
Chez moi :
- Je suis arrivée en retard même si Marya nous a informés à l’avance de l’heure de la rencontre.
- Je n’étais pas totalement concentrée pendant la présentation de M.Bernard, c’est pour cela que je n’ai pas bien profité du contenu de la présentation.
- Je n’ai pas pris de notes pendant toute la rencontre.
- J’ai constaté que je n’étais pas assez structurée au niveau de mes réponses lors de l’interview.
Il serait très facile pour moi de citer des solutions, mais je ne vais pas mentir, c’est vraiment difficile de les appliquer. Ce que je peux dire c’est que je fournis un grand effort pour dépasser mes difficultés.”
