Albert Bitton, directeur de la société venese bois et très bon ami de notre Institut, était de passage ce mercredi 11 octobre. Il a offert de son temps aux jeunes qui étaient présents pour parler de son histoire, ses origines…

Breaking The Walls Of Stereotypes.
Connect Institute organized a meeting with a group of selected youths to partake in a meeting the 9th of October at 4pm. There were 15 attendees including some Connect Institute staff members and Projects coordinators.
Mr. Taha explained the program’s purposes, exercises and branches that reflect several interests that the attendees can choose from. He then asked everyone to answer the question “where does money stand in your future?” 20 minutes later, the attendees took turn speaking their opinions whilst the listeners gave compliments or critique as to help them ameliorate their writing and speaking skills.
At the end of the discussion, Mr. Albert entered the room welcomed by Mr. Taha who primarily introduced the first as a Jewish-Moroccan so as to deliver a gentle shock to break down the stereotypes concerning Jews.
Mr. Albert was given the opportunity to introduce himself. After giving a short bio; the attendees were given the chance to interview Mr. Albert to further break down the walls of close-mindedness.
One of the partakers of the meeting explained that before she used to pray for all of mankind despite their religious differences and upon being told that it was wrong she stopped doing so without checking if the information was correct or not, she asked if any of the attendees had some information about it. Whilst her answer was not answered, it was clear that she realized that there are not as much differences between two Moroccans from different religions as the society sits it to be.
Another jumped in to comment on her questioning to say that they don’t pray for us in order for us to pray for them. Mr. Taha had closed down the brackets for that discussion as it would only be vile and pointless and outside the meeting’s purposes.
A third participant asked if Mr. Albert was part of a discussion where “Jewish” was used as an insult, as it is mainly done in the Moroccan culture, and how he felt at that situation. He laughed for few moments before answering that indeed it happened and he used an example of an incident that happened a while ago. Where he was displeased with one of his workers and the latter swore that he is a Jewish if he didn’t get paid. Mr. Albert recollected that the situation was heated, and upon hearing that he used the comment in his favor to flip the tables and calm his employee.
It was then discussed that to be thick headed and close minded is to deny the thousands of years of Jewish-Moroccan heritage. Including: music, artisans, traditions, cloths….
Mr. Taha closed the meeting with hopes that the participants took with them information that would change their viewing of their surroundings; even if just a little.

نظم لقاء مع مجموعة من الشباب يوم 09 أكتوبر. حيث طلب من الجميع الإجابة على السؤال “أين يقع المال في مستقبلك؟”، بعد انقضاء مهلة 20 دقيقة، استعرض الحضور آرائهم في حين أن المستمعين قدموا ملاحظاتهم لمساعدتهم على تحسين مهاراتهم في الكتابة والحديث.
في ختام هذا اللقاء، التحق السيد ألبير بيتون، مستثمر مغربي يهودي، ببقية الحضور. بعد التعريف عن نفسه، أعطى السيد بيتون نظرة حول سيرته الذاتية. تلتها أسئلة مختلفة موجهة للضيف من طرف المشاركين الذين لم يسبق لهم التحدث ليهودي مغربي من قبل.
في مداخلة لها، أوضحت إحدى المشتركات أنها كانت تصلي لجميع الناس باختلاف معتقداتهم، لكنّ إحدى صديقاتها أخبرتها أنه لا يجوز لمسلم الدعاء لليهود. الشيء الذي دفعها لطرح السؤال للتحقق من صحة الأمر. تدخل أحد المشتركين مجيبا بأن اليهود لا يصلون لأجلنا كي نصلي لأجلهم.
سألت أخرى ما إذا كان السيد ألبير طرفا في مناقشة استعملت فيه كلمة “يهودي” كإهانة، كما هو الحال في الثقافة المغربية، وكيف شعر في ذلك الوضع. ضحك لبضع لحظات قبل أن يؤكد حدوث ذلك؛ و استذكر حادثة وقعت منذ فترة، حيث كان مستاء مع أحد عماله وأقسم الأخير ” هل أنا يهودي؟” إذا لم يتقاضى راتبه. لكن السيد ألبير استعمل هذا التعليق لقلب الأجواء لصالحه و تهدئة الوضع.
زيارة السيد بيتون حثت المشاركين لإعادة التفكير في صورتهم النمطية عن اليهود. و أظهرت أن نظرة المغاربة السلبية لليهود هو إنكار آلاف السنين من التراث اليهودي المغربي. بما في ذلك: الموسيقى والحرفيين والتقاليد والملابس ….
